A Short Sermon from the Foothills of the Beer Summit.

Perhaps this has been stated elsewhere. But I haven’t seen it in anything I’ve read, so I’m saying it now.
“Skip” Gates, a Harvard professor who is on a first name basis with the President of the United States and has a world class academic reputation couldn’t do it. Neither can you.
No matter what the situation, hold your temper when in the presence of a police officer. Speak politely and quietly. Do not become indignant, even if the officer’s conduct is outrageous. Do not attempt to take control of the situation in any way.
Otherwise, please carry a lawyer’s card in your wallet and call him or her from jail.
End of Sermon.

Common sense is not so common anymore. Of course you mind your manners with a police office no matter what his conduct is like!
I guess you just raised me with respect for others.

Cliff,
I wish more of my criminal clients read your blog. Especially the client I had today. In the police report he was quoted as saying “F” the judge, “F” the prosecutor and “F” the police. That should get him a good result.
PS remind me never to write about politics on my blog again. My email box is full of people calling me a communist for suggesting Obama was born in Hawaii. Its gonna be a long week. LOL

Adrian:
Since journalists are not lawyers, they don’t know what we think is obvious. If you make a vigorous protest to a policeman about anything, he is going to put you in cuffs. It doesn’t matter what race you are. Just about everyone has an equal opportunity on this one.
At least the comments you are receiving are from real people, albeit ones you don’t want to know. I have been receiving robotic comments in cyrillic letters (I have long suspected that they are gibberish).
i did get a comment from the Scottish robot on the post I wrote about it last week. Its posted as a comment to the piece about the defence to the driving ban.
